Kia Engineering Inc. is a specialized engineering consulting firm focused on advanced infrastructure systems, with core expertise in structural dynamics, infrastructure resilience, soil–structure interaction, performance-based seismic design, collapse assessment, and seismic retrofitting. The firm is recognized for delivering technically rigorous, innovative, and cost-effective solutions to complex engineering challenges, serving public and private sector clients across critical infrastructure domains.
Incorporated in British Columbia and headquartered in Vancouver, Kia Engineering Inc. was established in August 2023 by Kianosh Ashkani Zadeh, who serves as President and Principal Engineer. Dr. Ashkani Zadeh holds both a Master of Applied Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering, with specialization in structural and earthquake engineering, from University of British Columbia.
During his academic and research career, Dr. Ashkani Zadeh developed an advanced methodology for assessing the seismic vulnerability and collapse potential of structures, integrating soil–structure interaction effects within a performance-based framework. This work has been recognized by leading experts in the field for its methodological rigor and practical applicability. He subsequently served as a Research Associate at UBC and held senior engineering roles with internationally recognized firms, including WSP Global and Parsons Corporation, contributing to major infrastructure and transportation projects.
Dr. Ashkani Zadeh is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia and maintains active membership in several leading technical organizations, including the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering, Structural Engineers Association of British Columbia, Canadian Association for Earthquake Engineering, and Earthquake Engineering Research Institute.
Dr. Ashkani Zadeh brings over 25 years of progressive experience in structural engineering and construction management, spanning advanced research, design, and delivery of complex infrastructure systems. His experience integrates performance-based seismic engineering, nonlinear analysis, and soil–structure interaction with practical implementation in large-scale transportation and infrastructure projects.
